Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg City will host a Te Deum service Sunday for the change of throne, an event requiring extensive preparations including a building closure starting Friday.

The celebrations for the change of throne will include a Te Deum service at Notre-Dame Cathedral on Sunday morning. Preparations for the grand event are set to begin this Friday.

Approximately 1,000 people will be accommodated for the service, with around 700 seats reserved for official guests and the remainder available to the general public. The seating arrangement follows a protocol similar to that of National Day. The new Grand Ducal Couple and their family, alongside the former Grand Ducal Couple and their siblings, will be seated in the chancel. The front rows will be occupied by members of Princess Stéphanie's family, as well as representatives from the government and parliament.

While the chairs were installed on Wednesday, the final decorative elements are still to be arranged. Officials noted that many installations were delayed because the cathedral remains open to the public, and also for security reasons.

For the occasion, the cathedral will be decorated primarily with colourful flower arrangements. As requested by the new Grand Ducal Couple, the displays will feature autumnal colours complemented by white.

One element already in place is the gown adorning the statue of the Mother of God. Embroidered with symbols representing each of Luxembourg's cantons, the gown is intended to symbolise the entire nation.

To facilitate the final preparations, the cathedral will be closed to the public starting Friday.
