The Chamber of Deputies has acknowledged two technical issues affecting online public petition signatures since March, assuring that fixes are underway and personal data was never compromised.
The Chamber of Deputies has announced that two technical issues affecting the public petitions website since mid-March have been identified and are now resolved or in the process of being fixed. According to a statement, the problems were linked to the relaunch of the petitions platform on 15 March and were detected earlier this week.
Both issues affected the way signatures were handled, but officials stressed that personal data remained protected at all times, with no breaches or leaks.
The first issue meant that online signatures submitted in Luxembourgish without electronic authentication – such as LuxTrust or eIDAS – were not counted. This potentially impacted around 80 petitions, though technical corrections have been implemented since the detection.
For the 24 petitions still open for signature, all affected signatures will now be included. For petitions that have already closed, organisers will be contacted by email and offered the possibility to relaunch their petition for a new signing period.
The Chamber noted that because the issue only concerned a small share of signatures, it would be "unlikely to have significantly influenced the outcome of most petitions".
The second issue concerned the visibility of certain signatures: while they were counted, they did not appear publicly on the site. This only affected users signing with LuxTrust. The Chamber said this problem is currently being resolved.
