Luxembourg residents are being encouraged to look at their walls in a new way, as a campaign spotlights the environmental potential of green façades.
The City of Luxembourg and the Oekozenter Pafendall have launched a new campaign to highlight the role of green façades in urban areas. As part of the 'reNature – restaurer la biodiversité' initiative, the aim is to raise public awareness of the positive ecological contribution of green buildings.
According to the City, green façades provide "important habitats for insects, birds and butterflies," while also helping to "improve the local microclimate, reduce air pollution and contribute to a better quality of life" in urban space.
In addition, they can lower energy consumption in buildings and enhance the cityscape, the environmental service noted.
A workshop will be held on Sunday, 21 September, from 10am to 12pm. The theoretical part will take place at the Oekozenter Pafendall, followed by a practical session at number 5, Rue Mohrfels. The workshop will be conducted in English, is free of charge, and open to a maximum of 30 participants.
Attendees will receive practical advice on choosing native climbing plants, as well as guidance on their care and benefits. Following the workshop, participants may receive a plant offered by the City of Luxembourg.
Registration is possible via e-mail at environnement@vdl.lu.
