Relentless high temperatures are expected to grip Luxembourg all week, with weather officials forecasting no relief before Friday and possibly beyond.

Meteolux confirmed Tuesday that Luxembourg's current heatwave will persist until at least Friday, with additional temperature alerts likely.

The national weather service attributed the prolonged warmth to a significant shift in atmospheric pressure systems across Europe.

Last week, a low-pressure system over the North Sea had blocked warm air from the south.

The current pattern now features high pressure over Eastern Europe and low pressure west of Iberia, creating a southerly airflow that is channelling hot air from southwest Europe into the region.

Forecast uncertainty beyond late August

While models suggest above-average temperatures may continue until 21–25 August, Luca Mathias from Meteolux cautioned that long-term predictions remain unreliable. "Although some indicators point towards normalisation afterwards, the level of uncertainty is still considerable", he explained.
