Following an illegal rave that took place near Heiderscheid on Friday night, investigations are now in full swing, with two arrests made and police seizing trucks and sound gear.
On Monday, the Diekirch prosecutor confirmed the event, which drew nearly 500 attendees to the Our valley, was organised in a strictly protected Natura 2000 conservation area, raising further legal concerns for the organisers.
Under the amended Nature Protection Act of 18 July 2018, Natura 2000 zones were created to denote specially protected area designated for the conservation of habitats and species of community interest. Given that the rave took place in one, authorities seized a large amount of professional sound equipment along with lorries and vans used to transport it. An investigation is now underway, focusing in part on identifying and prosecuting the organisers of the event for holding it in a strictly protected area.
In connection with the same event, two individuals were arrested and brought before an examining magistrate at the Diekirch District Court. They are suspected of importing and possessing illegal drugs with the intent to sell or distribute. Both have been placed in pre-trial detention. The presumption of innocence applies.
