The passenger building at Berchem rail station is set to be demolished over the summer holidays as part of a wider renovation project.

According to CFL, the demolition forms part of a large modernisation project which will seek to adapt the station to current standards and requirements.

The platform will be extended and widened, improving accessibility for all passengers.

Another vital facet of the project will be the construction of a new underground subway to facilitate access between the station's platforms. The passage will be spacious, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to use it, and will be equipped with lift access to make it more inclusive, according to a CFL spokesperson.

Demolition project

The new underground space will make use of the space currently occupied by the passenger building, leading to the latter's demolition. This will take place over the summer as the railway is closed, thus making it easier for the construction crew to carry out the work.
