On Wednesday afternoon, a major problem occurred at Post Luxembourg. Around 8.15pm, they largely gave the all-clear.
Since 4.30pm on Wednesday, customers of POST Luxembourg have been reporting significant network issues, including failed phone calls and interrupted 5G/internet access.
On Facebook, POST Luxembourg stated that both its official website and contact centre were inaccessible.
According to information obtained by RTL, the outages are primarily impacting POST Luxembourg's infrastructure.
Shortly after 7.30pm, the first users began reporting that Post's services were once again operational. The company’s website has also been accessible since then.
At 8.15pm, Post issued an official all-clear as services gradually returned to normal. The top priority had been to ensure that customers could once again contact emergency services, which were now fully operational nationwide. Post’s technical teams remain on site, continuing efforts to fully restore all services.
Post staff are investigating the cause of the outage, while operations at CGDIS and the police have also returned to normal.
The authorities reported delays in LU-Alert notifications reaching Post customers during the incident.
112 calls also affected
CGDIS announced on Facebook that there were difficulties reaching the emergency number 112 from within the Post network. Members of the public requiring urgent medical assistance were advised to make their own way to hospital.
In the meantime, all fire and rescue stations across the country were adequately staffed. By 7pm, three-quarters of the stations were operational; by 7.30pm, full nationwide coverage had been restored. In the event of an emergency, residents were advised to go to the nearest staffed station, where CGDIS personnel were able to contact hospitals via radio.
At around 9.15pm, the crisis unit confirmed that the situation had stabilised by 8pm, with emergency numbers 112 and 113 fully accessible once again.
At 9.43pm, the police confirmed their services were back to normal and advised the public to resume calling 113 directly, rather than using the temporary alternative contact points set up during the outage.
Throughout the incident, CGDIS operated under a contingency plan specifically designed for scenarios of this nature.
In response to enquiries, the police confirmed that they were also unreachable via the Post network. Members of the public were advised to contact the police by email at contact@police.public.lu or via the official police Facebook page.
Alternatively, individuals were encouraged to reach out to someone with access to a different telecom provider.
For those unable to reach the emergency number 113, the police provided two alternative contact numbers:
- 691 027 956
- 621 555 423
The CNS (National Health Fund) was also affected and unreachable via the Post network during the incident.
Delays and diversions at the airport
Shortly after 8pm, Luxair’s websites were back online, and operations returned to normal. Ultimately, the outage at Post led to the cancellation of a return flight to Luxembourg and caused several delays at Findel Airport for the national airline.
Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
