The long-running Munsbach Viaduct project enters its last stage this week, with officials targeting a full reopening by the new school year.
The National Roads Authority has announced the start of concluding work on the Munsbach Viaduct, with completion expected by the new school year in mid-September. Motorists should prepare for intermittent disruptions on the A1 motorway during this period.
The first stage of final works will occur during the weekend of 4-6 July, featuring a complete closure for traffic travelling fromTrier towards Luxembourg City from Friday at 7pm through Saturday 9am, and again from Saturday at 8pm until Sunday at 9am. During these closures, traffic will be redirected via the Potaschberg exit and N1 route. Limited access will be maintained on Saturday between 9am and 8pm, and on Sunday after 9am, with just one lane available in each direction.
The following weekend (11-13 July) will see nightly closures of the Munsbach exit in the Trier-to-Luxembourg City direction between 7pm and 8pm each evening, with traffic diverted through the Cargo Centre exit.
From 11 July through 14 September, the viaduct will operate with bidirectional traffic restricted to one lane in each direction. Motorists should anticipate periodic closures of access and exit roads throughout this period.
The viaduct is scheduled to fully reopen on 15 September 2025, at which point the current 70 km/h speed restriction will be lifted and the normal 130 km/h limit restored.
