MPs on the Special Parliamentary Committee on the Caritas Affair expressed frustration Wednesday after BGL BNP Paribas officials offered little new information, repeatedly citing banking secrecy during a tense parliamentary hearing.
Wednesday's meeting between the Special Parliamentary Committee on the Caritas Affair and representatives of BGL BNP Paribas was met with frustration by several MPs, with some calling it a session that "could have been skipped."
Compared to the meeting with Spuerkeess representatives on Monday, MPs said that they learned even less on Wednesday, with BGL BNP Paribas representatives repeatedly citing bank secrecy laws. The bank maintained it followed all proper procedures and denied any wrongdoing – a stance similar to Spuerkeess' defence on Monday.
MPs criticised the lack of cooperation, stating the meeting provided little value to the committee's work. According to lawmakers, the bank's unwillingness to engage meaningfully left the session unproductive.
