Registrations are now open for Aktioun Bambësch, a long-running holiday programme that offers children in Luxembourg City creative play afternoons in nature and community settings.

Organised by the City of Luxembourg's CAPEL (Centre d'Animation Pédagogique et de Loisirs), the initiative is celebrating its 50th year of bringing hands-on learning and adventure to young people.

What is Aktioun Bambësch?

Aktioun Bambësch is designed for children in Cycles 1.2 to 4.2 who live in Luxembourg City and offers them the chance to dive into themed projects over the course of several days or weeks. Based on the principles of educational play and active participation, the programme lets children explore, create, and build friendships while working with trained animateurs.

Each group helps shape the activities they take part in, whether it is constructing mud houses at Villa Argila, setting up a miniature society in Kannerdorf, or engaging with nature in the forest project Bambësch. There are also daily workshops and games tailored to younger children.

When and where does it take place?

The 2025 summer edition of Aktioun Bambësch takes place from Monday 14 July to Friday 8 August.

During summer, activities begin at CAPEL in Mühlenbach and then branch out to locations such as Bambësch Forest, Villa Argila, parks, and open spaces. In colder months, sessions are held indoors in cultural centres around the city such as Merl and Bonnevoie.

What is the daily routine?

Children are collected by bus from their local Foyer scolaire at around 1pm and brought to Mühlenbach, where they are divided into project groups. The afternoons include themed workshops, games, open play time, and a picnic. Each day wraps up with a group activity like a short performance or singalong before buses return at 6.00pm.
In the event of heavy rain, activities move indoors to nearby gyms or community centres.

A highlight in summer: Kanner in the City

Midway through the summer session, the city centre is transformed during Kanner in the City – a full day of outdoor games and activities held in public spaces like Place d’Armes and Place Guillaume. Children, accompanied by their animateurs, can roam freely between stations and enjoy a festive atmosphere.

How to register

Registration is separate from regular Foyer scolaire sign-ups and must be done directly with CAPEL. Forms and full details are available by email at aktioun.bambesch@vdl.lu. Registrations are open until 22 May 2025 and the programme is free of charge.

Children should bring a backpack with water and food, wear weather-appropriate clothing, and carry their ID badge and festival wristband each day. Parents are reminded to inform organisers about any allergies or special needs.
