Sichel SA will be declared bankrupt Wednesday afternoon, marking the definitive end of the 30-year-old retailer that once operated multiple showrooms across Luxembourg.

Sichel, a well-known home furnishings retailer in Luxembourg, has permanently shuttered its remaining stores in Esch-sur-Alzette and Bertrange, marking the end of its 30-year presence in the Grand Duchy.

The Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce is expected to formally declare the company's bankruptcy on Wednesday afternoon.

In a Facebook announcement Wednesday morning, Sichel SA cited "great sadness and deep regret" as it confirmed closures at its Rue Simon Bolivar (Esch) and Rue des Mérovingiens (Bertrange) locations. The 18 affected employees will lose their jobs and receive support from the National Employment Agency (ADEM).

Company officials acknowledged years of mounting challenges, noting teams had worked to overcome declining purchasing power and shifting consumer habits. "These difficulties have now become insurmountable," the statement read. The closures complete a gradual withdrawal – Sichel had already shuttered its 2,000 m² Howald showroom in 2024 and two Bertrange locations earlier this year.

Founded in 1995, Sichel specialised in furniture, tableware, and home accessories.
