While some travellers can enjoy a day abroad for as little as €15, others may need to budget over €300 – and Luxembourg sits firmly on the pricier end of the spectrum, a new report shows.
For many, holidays are a luxury, but some destinations are far more affordable than others. French financial comparison platform HelloSafe has released its latest ranking of travel costs, revealing stark differences in daily budgets across the globe.
Unsurprisingly, Luxembourg ranks among the most expensive destinations in Europe. Tourists visiting the Grand Duchy can expect to spend an average of €169 per day, making it the fourth most costly European destination after Switzerland, France, and Iceland. Comparatively, Germany requires a daily budget of €139, while tourists in France spend an average of €181 per day.
These figures, however, pale in comparison to some of the world's priciest destinations. In Barbados, for example, the average daily budget is €318, compared to €258 in the Maldives, €239 in the United States, €213 in Greenland, and €182 in Qatar.
Switzerland, the only European country to feature in the global top 15, demands €241 per day.

At the other end of the spectrum, Asian and African countries offer some of the most budget-friendly travel options. In Laos, the average daily budget is just €15, compared to €20 in Rwanda, €23 in Mongolia, and €35 in Cuba, India, Malawi, and Nepal.
HelloSafe's ranking is based on an analysis of 131 countries, factoring in the costs of accommodation, food, and local transportation. The study excludes the price of international travel to reach these destinations.
