Luxembourg’s unemployment rate has fallen to 5.8% as of January 2025, according to the latest figures released by the National Employment Agency (ADEM). Despite an overall increase in the number of jobseekers, the demand for workers in key sectors has grown significantly.
The number of resident jobseekers registered with ADEM reached 19,431 at the end of January, marking a year-over-year increase of 6.1%. This rise mainly affects individuals who have been unemployed for over seven months, jobseekers aged over 30, and those holding higher education qualifications.
Among job categories, the largest increases in jobseekers were observed in information technology, road transportation, culinary production, banking, and accounting.
Despite demand, employers reported 3,426 new vacancies to ADEM in January 2025, a 14.6% increase compared to the same period last year. However, the total number of available positions at the end of the month stood at 6,545, reflecting a 6% decline year-on-year. This decrease has particularly impacted jobs in accounting, information technology, banking, and warehousing.
Meanwhile, the number of jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits has increased by 8.4% year-on-year, reaching 11,837. Employment support measures remain stable, with 4,332 participants recorded.
Despite fluctuations in job seeker numbers, the continued rise in job vacancies suggests a positive outlook for Luxembourg’s labour market in the months ahead, according to the statement from ADEM.
