The Chamber of Deputies unanimously adopted a resolution on Tuesday condemning all forms of hate speech after MP Tom Weidig of the ADR liked a social media post advocating the "extermination of LGBTQ".

On Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies unanimously passed a resolution that was tabled in response to recent actions by MP Tom Weidig of the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR).

The resolution, tabled collectively by all other parliamentary groups and political factions, strongly denounced all forms of violence, hatred, discrimination, and attacks against human rights, particularly targeting minorities. During an at-times emotionally charged session, one party after another sharply criticised Weidig's conduct.

The controversy stemmed from Weidig's recent engagement with a social media post that called for the "extermination of LGBTQ". Weidig later stated that he could not explain how he had liked the post and publicly apologised for the incident. Both the ADR and Weidig himself supported the resolution, which received unanimous backing in the Chamber.

Rosa Lëtzebuerg files a complaint

The LGBTIQ+ advocacy group Rosa Lëtzebuerg has announced that it has filed a police complaint against both the author of the comment in question and Tom Weidig, who liked it. The group is also calling on Weidig to recognise his responsibility as an MP and to resign from all political positions as a consequence.
