Authorities are investigating one of Luxembourg's largest drug busts after police seized a road crusher concealing hundreds of kilos of cocaine, with two suspects now in custody at the Uerschterhaff penitentiary centre.
Early last week, police seized an industrial stone-crushing machine in north-west Luxembourg as part of an ongoing drug investigation. The machine, which had arrived from Colombia, concealed cocaine with an estimated market value of between €80 million and €120 million.
At a rare press conference on Friday, prosecutors confirmed the scale of the operation. While it was initially reported that the crusher was seized in the municipality of Rambrouch, RTL sources now indicate that it was stored temporarily in a farmyard in Bilsdorf. The property, no longer in active use, consists of barns and large halls situated along a country road south of the village.
Two arrests made
On Thursday, two men were taken into custody in connection with the case. According to the prosecutor's office, one suspect is 38 years-old, while the second suspect is 43 years-old.
Investigators believe the seized drugs were not intended for distribution in Luxembourg but were part of a larger international operation.
The prosecutor’s office is expected to release further details in the coming days, particularly regarding the exact quantity of drugs.
On Friday, the road crusher had not yet been fully dismantled, so no precise data could be provided.
