In an unexpected turn of events, Luxembourg's national police union voted to remove its president, Marlène Negrini, on Wednesday, following a loss of confidence in her leadership.
On Wednesday, the National Union of the Luxembourg Police (SNPGL) held a series of votes with the aim of removing its president, Marlène Negrini. The motion was successful, with the final vote concluding 5 to 4 against Negrini.
Negrini confirmed the vote to our colleagues from RTL.lu, while SNPGL Secretary General Christian Hoffmann explained the decision to reshuffle the executive committee. According to Hoffmann, the move stemmed from a loss of trust in Negrini, citing recent cases in which the now former president allegedly took decisions without adequately informing the committee beforehand.
In a subsequent vote that afternoon, Hoffmann was appointed as interim president, a role he will hold until the SNPGL's general assembly scheduled for late March. Both Negrini and the SNPGL declined to comment further, citing the need to "clarify" several issues through legal proceedings.
RTL sources also report that former SNPGL president Pascal Ricquier may be interested in returning to the role.
Ricquier stepped down in 2023 to run for the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) in the legislative elections. However, he was ultimately not elected to the Chamber of Deputies.
