Employees in Luxembourg are being urged to avoid submitting fake sick notes to their employers or the National Health Fund (CNS). The CNS issued a warning on Tuesday, emphasising that such documents – often obtained through online platforms without proper medical consultation – will be automatically rejected and could lead to serious consequences.

The CNS stated that it “rejects all sick notes acquired online without personal contact with a doctor or issued by unknown practitioners.” Employees who submit such sick notes risk not only losing their right to compensation but also facing disciplinary action from their employers, as the CNS notifies them when a fake sick note is detected. Additionally, the CNS may impose fines and initiate legal proceedings against policyholders who use fraudulent sick notes.

In all cases, the CNS confirmed that “the sick note will be declared null and void.” The fines vary depending on the duration of the false sick leave:

  • €200 for sick notes covering up to three days of work incapacity.
  • €500 for sick notes covering more than three days of work incapacity.
  • €750 for repeat offenders, regardless of the duration.

The CNS has identified several unknown medical practitioners and has published their names to raise awareness. The list includes:

  • Umar Masroor
  • Samueel Zubair
  • Haresh Kumar
  • Ahmad Abdullah
  • Sahar Rezgani
  • Imen Missaoui
  • Harbel Lakhder
