The motorist involved fled the scene and remains unidentified. Reports of suspicious activity in the area leading up to the accident add to the family’s pain. According to the owners, concrete blocks previously placed near their entrance gate to protect the family’s trailer had been moved. Other inhabitants in the area had noticed an increase in burglars as well.
The strong gusts of wind then caused their unprotected entrance gate to open, allowing the family dog, Sky, to run out onto the road. Only moments later, the family – including two young children – witnessed the accident.
Traumatised by the loss of their companion, the children continue to desperately search for Sky to no avail. Their parents, equally distraught, have trying to identify those responsible for the hit-and-run.
Police have been notified, and a formal complaint has been filed. The authorities have visited the scene, but the driver remains at large. The family is therefore urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or observed unusual activity to report directly to the police.
