The initiative plans to release monthly videos to motivate young women to pursue careers in science and technology. Serge Haan, project leader, underlined the ongoing challenge of recruiting women into these domains and stressed the importance of fostering diversity.

“It’s essential because researchers in these fields develop solutions for a diverse society,” Haan explained. “When research teams are diverse, different perspectives come together and generate more adequate solutions.”

The campaign also hopes to dismantle stereotypes, encouraging the next generation to question gender roles and follow their dreams.

Marie-Alix Dalle, a participating scientist, shares how this type of initiative shaped her career:

“I think this is a perfect event because it’s the sort of initiative that inspired me to work in the technology domain. When I was 12 or 13, I attended a similar program in France which really motivated me to pursue studies in science and technology.”

Students from Geesseknäppchen schools also took part in the launch event. Many expressed how the initiative inspired them:

“The problem is that many girls want to enter these fields but are intimidated by the challenges. This project gives them a chance,” said one student.

Another student finds the project “super interesting as someone who is still unsure about [her] future.” She added that she felt “supported by this initiative to explore and decide on [her] path.”

“If we have enough initiatives, it could normalise having women in the sector. Maybe then I might have the chance to work towards becoming a scientist or doctor without experiencing the sexism they often face.”

Visibility is key to the campaign’s success, as role models play a vital role in motivating young girls to follow similar paths.

You can find the project’s monthly videos in multiple languages on uni.lu.
