Water levels in Luxembourg's rivers are gradually returning to normal after several days of heavy rain, though the Moselle Valley remains under an orange alert due to rising waters.

Following several days of persistent rain, water levels in rivers and streams across Luxembourg are slowly receding as of Friday.

In Bollendorf, the Sûre River reached a peak of 4.16m overnight but has since begun to decline. Similarly, water levels of the Our River in Vianden have also started to drop.

The Alzette River in Ettelbruck had crossed the red alert threshold of 2.30m on Thursday afternoon but has since fallen by 20cm.

Meanwhile, the Moselle region remains at orange level, as the river continues to rise, albeit at a slower pace.

Water levels are expected to reach 630 cm in Stadtbredimus, with Remich hitting a general level of 530cm in the night to Saturday. From Saturday evening through Sunday, the water should start receding.

The alert issued by the Water Management Authority's flood prevention centre remains in place until Sunday 6pm.
