A shipment of 330 pallets of medical supplies from Luxembourg has arrived in Rwanda, offering essential support in the fight against the Marburg virus disease.

Luxembourg has delivered 330 pallets of personal protective equipment and medical devices to Rwanda to support the country's fight against the Marburg virus disease (MVD) outbreak, which began on 27 September 2024. The supplies arrived in Rwanda on 3 December and were received by local partners. The initiative was co-financed by the European Union.

In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, several Luxembourg ministries and the Agency for Development and Humanitarian Aid outlined the aim of this contribution. The initiative seeks to bolster Rwanda's health response by replenishing equipment stocks, protecting health workers on the ground, and reducing the risk of disease transmission.

By supporting the Rwandan health authorities, Luxembourg hopes to contribute to global efforts in strengthening public health and combating the spread of communicable diseases, the statement reads.
