Four police officers accused of assaulting a detained man during the 2023 night marathon in the capital and attempting a cover-up now face a judge to determine if they will stand trial.

The incident reportedly took place during the evening of the 2023 Luxembourg City night marathon. Three officers are accused of beating a detained man who had been drinking, while a fourth allegedly attempted to cover up the incident by instructing a colleague to falsify the official report.

The alleged misconduct came to light after the instructed officer reported the matter, leading to the arrest of the four accused. They were remanded in custody for two months in July 2023 and remain suspended from duty.

The case is now before a judge, who will decide if there is sufficient evidence for a trial. If convicted, the officers could face prison sentences ranging from 5 to 15 years.
