A late-night operation by Luxembourg police uncovered a range of violations in cafés across the south of the country.

Between 10pm on Sunday and 2am on Monday, 40 officers conducted checks in Differdange, Pétange, Rodange, and Esch-sur-Alzette, focusing on whether cafés had the required permits while also inspecting their owners.

The inspection led to the closure of two establishments that were operating without the necessary authorisations. Two other premises were found with nobody in charge during the inspections while another two were flagged for employing undeclared workers. One café was found to be in breach of regulations for staying open beyond permitted hours.

Police also discovered other infractions during the operation. Five reports were issued for drug possession, and one for failure to display required permits and sales prices. A person residing in the country illegally was arrested, and officers seized a knife and a vehicle suspected of being linked to drug-related activities.
