'Unacceptable working conditions'Luxembourg police union contradicts ministers' claims regarding prisoner transports

RTL Today
Luxembourg's national police union has sharply criticised recent comments on prisoner transports made by Ministers Elisabeth Margue and Léon Gloden, decrying current working conditions as "unacceptable".

In a statement released on Wednesday, the national police union (SNPGL) categorically rejected comments made by Minister of Justice Elisabeth Margue and Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden in a recent response to a parliamentary question on prisoner transports.

Contrary to the ministers’ claims, the SNPGL describes the current organisation of prisoner transports in Luxembourg as inadequate. According to the police union, present working conditions are “unacceptable,” putting officers under “substantial pressure” and exposing them to “high professional risks.”

In their coalition agreement, the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) and the Democratic Party (DP) pledged to adjust the legal framework so that certain tasks, such as prisoner transports, could be completed without the involvement of police officers in the future. The SNPGL regrets that “nothing” has been done so far, stressing that the time has come to implement “concrete measures” and “find solutions to a problem that has persisted for way too long.”
