Professionals from the internet and cyber-security sectors gathered on Tuesday for the 11th Luxembourg Internet Days, spotlighting cyber attack prevention, skills development, and the launch of the secure Luxchat4Gov messaging app for municipalities.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Chamber of Commerce is once again hosting the Luxembourg Internet Days, an annual meeting place for professionals to gather and discuss the latest technological advancements. Entering its 11th edition, the exhibition has become a key date for professionals in the internet and cyber-security field in particular. The event yearly attracts over 1,000 experts who present and discuss the newest developments alongside the 45 exhibitors.
One of the biggest focal points of this year's edition are cyber attacks and how to protect oneself against them, including skills and job workshops. Official partner country of the 2024 edition is Romania, known for its high-quality IT expertise and its excellent infrastructure.
On Tuesday, the launch of the new messaging app for municipalities, called Luxchat4Gov, was on the agenda, a project that Digitisation Minister Stéphanie Obertin and Home Affairs Minister Léon Gloden have advanced since the Frieden government took over in 2023. Municipal employees will thus be able to communicate more easily with people via chat in the future, with the new platform putting a special emphasis on secure data exchanges.
In a written statement, Justice Minister Elisabeth Margue recalled the cyber attacks against several government websites in March 2024, stating that "cyber security is an ongoing battle where we cannot afford to rest on our laurels". She stressed that the government will continue investing in Luxembourg's "cyber resilience, in particular by modernising the purification centre and investing in emerging technologies such as quantum communication".
