The Luxembourg City police arrested two suspects on Monday after a pedestrian was surrounded by a group of criminals and mugged.

The Luxembourg police report that a pedestrian was mugged in the capital on Monday morning.

According to the police bulletin, the victim was "surrounded by several individuals" on Rue de Strasbourg in the Gare neighbourhood.

The passer-by tried to defend themselves but was outnumbered. The culprits pepper-sprayed the victim and stole their mobile phone.

The authorities managed to identify two suspects shortly after the mugging. They were apprehended and taken to the police station. A body search revealed that they were carrying two knives and four crack pipes.

The public prosecutor's office ordered the arrest of both suspects. They were brought before an examining magistrate on Tuesday morning.
