In a bid to better inform consumers, the Luxembourg Regulatory Institute recently launched SmartCompare.lu, a new online tool allowing users to easily compare offers of telecommunication providers in Luxembourg.
On Thursday, the Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR) officially unveiled a new online tool allowing consumers to compared telecommunication offers.
As the sector is becoming increasingly competitive, consumers often struggle to make sense of the various offers. With its new tool, the ILR hopes to increase awareness among customers.
The platform, called SmartCompare.lu, allows users to make direct comparisons and filter results by the main criteria that interest them.
In an interview with our colleagues from RTL Télé, ILR Director Luc Tapella explained that the tool is meant to provide consumers with a transparent, independent, and up-to-date way to compare offers.

Tapella noted that operators in Luxembourg are obligated to publish new offers on SmartCompare, meaning that the tool will always include the latest offers and constantly evolve. Additionally, operators have to upload information in a specific format to make information more understandable for customers.
However, it is not the ILR's intention to convince consumers of any particular offer. For this reason, there is no rating system on the platform. "It's a transparent presentation of the offers that are on the market," Tapella said, adding "We're not saying who's the best because no one's the best."
The aim is for consumers to find what they need by making use of the platform's filters, as different customers prioritise different factors, such as cheapest price or fastest internet speed.
The tool saves consumers the trouble of having to visit each provider individually without ever getting a clear overview.
SmartCompare.lu is free to use and allows users to compare landline, internet, television, and mobile offers, which can also be mixed-and-matched.
The site features an FAQ section, which also offers explanations of the different technologies. If consumers encounter problems or something they don't understand, they can report it via the website.
