Five Colruyt-brand ready-made meals in Luxembourg are being recalled over concerns they may contain metal shards, according to an alert from the Veterinary and Food Administration.

The Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) issued a warning on Saturday regarding five ready-made meals from the Colruyt brand that may contain metal shards.

In an announcement on Saturday afternoon, ALVA issued an orange alert, the medium alert level, for the recall of certain Colruyt ready meals. The recall is due to "the possible presence of metal shards," according to the administration.

The affected products include:

  • Mashed potatoes (approximately 500g),
  • Spinach and gorgonzola purée (approximately 715g),
  • Shepherd's pie with chicory (approximately 800g),
  • Shepherd's pie with spinach and gorgonzola (approximately 800g),
  • Shepherd's pie with cauliflower (approximately 800g).

These meals were sold by Colruyt between 4 November and 8 November, with use-by dates ranging from 8 November to 15 November.

ALVA emphasised that the presence of foreign objects, especially hard or sharp particles, in food products poses a risk of injury if accidentally ingested. A foreign body, as defined by ALVA, is "any particle present in a food product with a nature or texture not expected by the consumer or customer."
