As Luxembourg's long-term care insurance system celebrates its 25th anniversary, Minister of Health Martine Deprez has shared some figures that underscore the system's role in supporting elderly citizens.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of long-term care insurance, Minister of Health Martine Deprez shared key statistics regarding the system.
Currently, approximately 17,000 elderly individuals in Luxembourg are covered by long-term care insurance, with two-thirds receiving care in their own homes. The care and assistance services sector employs around 12,000 people.
Minister Deprez presented these figures during the anniversary of the long-term care insurance system, which was established in 1999 and is one of the few systems of its kind in Europe.
In 2023, the total expenditure for providing care and assistance to elderly and disabled individuals reached about €905 million. This figure encompasses services for those receiving care at home as well as those residing in retirement homes or disability support facilities.
