More and more animals are contaminated by the Bluetongue disease. Since August, 995 infections have been reported in 416 different businesses.
The Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) shares that a further 112 animals were tested positive for the disease in the past week, with laboratory results confirming the disease in 30 more businesses.
This brings the total number of infected animals in the Grand Duchy to 995, including 844 cows, 141 sheep, eight goats, and two alpacas, spread across 416 businesses.
Despite a slight decrease in the mortality rate among sheep compared to the week of 9-15 September, the rate for cows has remained unchanged. ALVA advises animal owners to report any increase in mortality via the provided form.
The Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration reminds business owners that there are still vaccines left against the disease. So far, only 94.300 of the 240.000 available doses have been distributed to veterinaries.
