Caritas announced a significant restructuring as it transitions to its successor organisation, Hëllef um Terrain (Aid on the Ground).
While the domestic responsibilities of Caritas are to be handled by the successor, many of its international projects have been transferred to other actors, if not completely dissolved.
As a result, the humanitarian agency announced on Saturday morning that 30 employees in Luxembourg, as well as 70 in South Sudan and Laos, will be made redundant. More than 60 international projects have already been cancelled.
In the announcement, the organisation expressed its disappointment that no other actors have stepped in to continue Caritas' international efforts as well as maintain the dedication and highly skilled work of its team.
