Prime Minister Luc Frieden and several ministers have met to discuss the Caritas case. According to RTL sources, the Caritas entities involved in the recent financial shortfall are expected to be relieved of their duties.
Despite the embezzlement scandal, Caritas services must continue without requiring the government to cover the €61 million loss, as Luc Frieden stated earlier this month. While some details are still being finalised, a definitive solution is anticipated in the coming weeks.
Starting in October, new entities will take over the management of the organisation's services. However, several steps will be required: agreements will need to be re-evaluated, and employees may need to be transferred. The entities slated for removal will continue to operate on a transitional basis until the end of September.
As mentioned, the final elements of the plan are still being worked out. However, it is clear that once Caritas undergoes its upcoming adjustments, members of the current management will no longer be involved.
The Caritas institutions most affected by the embezzlement were the foundation and 'Accueil de Solidarité.' The organisation's branches focused on cooperation and services for people in precarious situations were hit hardest and will require reorganisation. Services related to childcare and the 'Children, Adolescents, and Families' group are separate and will continue to operate as usual. BBVA, an asset management company, has already imposed spending restrictions on Caritas' accounts.
