Firefighters and emergency services were called 17 times due to strong thunderstorms and heavy downpour on Saturday evening.
Emergency services were kept busy on Saturday evening as they responded to multiple incidents caused by the storm. In 37 reported cases, firefighters worked alongside the National Roads Administration to clear blocked roads after trees and other debris had fallen.
In a more dramatic turn of events, a lightning strike in Helmsange shortly before 8pm set a roof on fire, prompting a swift response from firefighters in Steinsel, Walferdange, and Lintgen. No one was injured in the incident.
The Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) also reported that the heavy rainfall made roads extremely slippery, leading to several accidents. Around 8.40 pm, a motorcyclist fell and was injured in Koetschette, followed by a similar incident in Niederfeulen shortly after 9pm, where another motorcyclist was injured. Later, at 10.30pm, a car crashed into a tree in Essen near Mersch, resulting in one person being injured.
