Following the deaths of five dogs at a southern Luxembourg kennel, the Veterinary and Food Administration is scrutinising the facility, which was found to be operating without the legally required permit.
After five dogs recently died following a stay at the same kennel in southern Luxembourg, the Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) is continuing its investigation into the business – which has already been found to lack the necessary operating license. Since the investigation into animal rights violations is still ongoing, it is too early to draw conclusions, according to ALVA spokesperson Dr Bérit Majeres.
What is already clear is that different circumstances have led to the deaths of the five dogs, although the exact causes still need to be determined. The ALVA has sent a team to the kennel to further investigate the scene and autopsies have been commissioned for the deceased dogs.
As for the lacking authorisation, establishments need to have a written permit to operate, which only the ALVA can award. Aside from checking the variety of administrative registration documents, the Administration will also visit each kennel before issuing such permits.
In general, Dr Majeres advises to ask shelter keepers on site whether they have an authorisation or not before entrusting them with one’s animals. It is also advised to inspect the facility beforehand.
