The home affairs minister cancelled a council nomination once again. The DP section from Sandweiler reacts to the incident in a written report.
After it was made public on Wednesday that Minister of Home Affairs Léon Gloden dismissed yet another local council nomination in Sandweiler after the case in Hesperange, the DP department voiced their opinion on the matter on Thursday evening.
The announcement for the position was “admittedly flawed,” but the media uproar surrounding the dismissal needs to be addressed. The Democratic Party (DP) section, under LSAP mayor Jacqueline Breuer, provides the first and second deputy mayors in Sandweiler, ahead of opposition parties CSV and Déi Gréng. In a press statement, the party criticized the minister’s actions.
“Instead of developing their own ideas, all bureaucratic tools are being used to hinder the work of the LSAP/DP mayoral council,” the DP's communication stated. A “formal” and “strictly juridical” mistake occurred, leading to a job offer that was tailored to someone with a master's degree in architecture, but ultimately given to an engineer in environmental sciences. This, however, did not affect the “candidate’s undisputed qualifications.”
To provide context, the municipality of Sandweiler had provisionally nominated a civil servant with an A1 career designation for the technical service. The job posting called for a professional with a master's degree in architecture, urbanism, and site development. The individual who received the most votes from the LSAP and DP majority held a master's in environmental development within the field of engineering ecology, a choice heavily criticized by Déi Gréng.
The opposition party formally raised the issue with the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Green Party argued that another candidate had the exact qualifications required for the position. The Ministry of Home Affairs concluded that the nominee did not meet all the criteria, leading to the cancellation of his appointment earlier this month.
