Torrential downpours have hit northeast France on Wednesday. On Thursday, vigilance remains necessary in Luxembourg due to new thunderstorms.
Violent thunderstorms
On Wednesday, an alert was issued for Luxembourg and several French departments due to thunderstorms that swept through the region caused by extreme heat.
The storms led to torrential rainfall, particularly affecting France. In Gérardmer, Vosges, and Soultzeren, Alsace, nearly 100mm of rain fell suddenly, as depicted in the videos below.
Alert to be maintained this Thursday, 1 August
Meteolux has issued a yellow alert for Luxembourg this Thursday from 7am to 4pm due to the risk of thunderstorms. Rainfall could reach 15 to 30 litres per square meter in a short period. No alerts are expected for Friday, when conditions should return to normal.

In France, thunderstorms will continue in the northeast, bringing heavy rain and potential flooding to northern France and Belgium from the morning.
The Benelux countries and Switzerland may also face severe thunderstorms, with up to 60mm of rain, hail, and strong winds, though the severe weather conditions are expected to diminish by nightfall.
