Over 100 motorists engaged in racing and drifting at a Huldange shopping centre on Saturday night, causing fireworks-related damage and leading to a police intervention and the detention of one participant.

Police on Saturday night were alerted to a gathering of over 100 motorists at the car park of a shopping centre in Huldange. According to reports, those at the meeting were racing and drifting around the car park, and the use of fireworks triggered the smoke detectors of the centre.

Both the police and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) were thus deployed to the location. They encountered numerous people still at the scene and found that some vehicles not belonging to those at the meeting had also been damaged by the fireworks.

After one of the participants threw a banger in the direction of the police, officers detained the man and took him to the station. The rest of the meet-up quickly disbanded afterwards.
