In the fight against poverty, the government relies above all on the allowance for living expenses.
The cost-of-living benefit is set to increase by 10% next year, and will be linked to energy subsidies, which are to be tripled. Further details can be found on the National Solidarity Fund website on fns.lu.
The site offers a calculation tool for citizens to use in order to determine whether they are eligible for the benefit, as well as calculating allowances and energy subsidies.
These new measures are likely to cost around 120 million euros a year if every eligible citizen requests them. As many people are not aware of what they are entitled to in terms of benefits, the government is focusing on administrative simplification to improve access.
Family minister Max Hahn said they would also seek improvement communications with municipal councils in order to relieve the burden on social services and make it feasible to conduct more social work in the field.
