On Monday, the public prosecutor’s office confirmed a warden working for the Uerschterhaff prison had been taken into custody on suspicion of smuggling items such as illicit substances and mobile phones into the detention centre. Two other people, one of whom is thought to be a supplier, have also been arrested in connection with the case.
The three suspects were brought before an investigating judge last week and remain in custody. The smuggling ring is thought to have been running since December last year.

The prosecutor’s office said the presumption of innocence applies until otherwise confirmed.
