Police in Luxembourg's capital were forced to intervene after a fight broke out on Place d'Armes on Thursday night.

A number of people were reported to have joined in a mass brawl, before dispersing towards Hamilius or Rue Notre Dame when police arrived on the scene. However, officers were able to catch up with all the reported individuals. One of the men was taken into custody as he was deemed to represent a danger to himself and others due to extensive alcohol consumption. He was held overnight in order to sober up.

Another individual was taken into custody for heavy intoxication earlier on Thursday afternoon in Differdange, after he was spotted sitting in the middle of the road on Rue Emile Mark. The man failed to cooperate with officers when approached and began to insult them, leading to his arrest. He was also given a medical check-up.

In Dudelange, a motorist had their licence taken away after police spotted them weaving across Rue du Parc in zigzags. Officers established the driver was under the influence of alcohol and consequently confiscated the individual's driving licence.
