Luxembourg and Ukraine have signed a ten-year bilateral security agreement in Washington D.C. on Wednesday.

As part of the agreement, Luxembourg has pledged €80 million in military aid to Ukraine for 2024. Cooperation in satellite technology and IT sectors was also discussed, consistent with previous years.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden convened in the US capital on Wednesday morning local time to formalise the agreement.

With this agreement, the Grand Duchy becomes one of about two dozen countries that have signed such a bilateral security agreement with Ukraine. The framework of the agreement is based on G7 conventions. The goal is for as many countries as possible to provide guarantees to Ukraine in various areas. The NATO summit, also occurring in Washington D.C. on Wednesday and Thursday, has highlighted international support for Ukraine as a prominent agenda item.
