Clients using the Post mobile network recently received a letter confirming the provider intends to stop its multimedia messaging service on 29 September 2024.
Post customers will no longer be able to send or receive MMS messages from the end of September. These messages primarily consist of photos, videos or other attachments sent via text message, or SMS. For iPhone users, these messages are only sent when corresponding with someone who does not have an Apple device and can therefore not make use of the iMessage function.
Post said the decision to cancel the service was due to the reduction in MMS messages sent in recent years, as customers are more likely to make use of online messenger applications such as Whatsapp, Signal, Viber or Messenger, as these are free to use and do not limit attachment sizes. Emails may also be used as an alternative to MMS texts.
Post also published more information on the closure of the MMS service online, answering questions such as, what happens if a customer continues to send an MMS, or would they still be charged if the message is not delivered.
