80 schoolchildren from Bridel, Howald, Kayl, Strassen and Useldange visited the European Parliament on Kirchberg on Friday.

As part of the 'You and the MEPs' project, pupils met Luxembourg's MEPs to discuss their ideas and wishes with them. The event was organised by the Centre for Political Education in cooperation with the Plomm Children's Museum as well as the European Parliament.

The aim is to familiarise the children with democracy and talk to them about children's rights:

"It is important for children to know from the outset what democracy is and what their rights are in a democracy. It is a great right to have a say, which is why it is also important to explain to minors that they can use their vote to participate in political issues even without the right to vote. Even if they are still children," explains Claire Enders from the education service of the Centre for Political Education.

The project has been running for a few years now, but in previous years the school classes tended to go to the Luxembourg Parliament to talk to the Luxembourg MPs. In the context of the European elections, however, the school classes went to the Kirchberg Parliament.
