The sum is designed to replace the current fleet of diesel buses with electric vehicles by 2030.

On Thursday, MPs approved a budget of almost 700 million euros to upgrade the CFL bus fleet to electric vehicles. The sum will also include construction of the necessary infrastructure to charge the new buses.

This means the bus maintenance budget will increase by 25% compared to the diesel fleet for the necessary costs required to charge the vehicles. The bill is solely intended for the bus services provided by CFL, which currently operates 10 bus routes in Luxembourg.

Minister of Mobility Yuriko Backes declared she was determined to conclude negotiations on a new agreement with Tice, another bus operator, before the summer break.
