The Paris Olympic Games will kick off on 26 July. To mark the occasion, Grand Duke Henri granted an exclusive interview to RTL on Tuesday in his capacity as a member of the Luxembourg Olympic and Sports Committee.

At the invitation of RTL, the Head of State visited the Coque sports and culture centre to watch table tennis players Sarah De Nutte, Ni Xia Lian, and Luka Mladenovic train. Grand Duke Henri has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 1998, attending his first Games in Sydney in 2000. The 2024 Paris Games will be his seventh.

In a surprising announcement at the National Day ceremony on Sunday at the Philharmonie, Grand Duke Henri revealed he would hand over the lieutenancy to his son, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, this autumn. When asked if the upcoming Olympics would be his last in his current role, he responded:

"I have made an announcement for October. For me, this is a step to prepare my son Guillaume for his role, and then we'll see."

The full interview with the Grand Duke will be broadcast on Wednesday evening on RTL.lu and RTL Télé. It will cover the value of sport in society, youth sports, and the ambitions of Luxembourg athletes at the Olympics. Additionally, the Grand Duke will share his favourite sports.
