The royal couple traditionally visits Esch-sur-Alzette, the second largest city in Luxembourg, on the eve of national day and this year was no different.

On Saturday in the late hours of the afternoon, the Hereditary Grand Ducal couple was accompanied by the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, Mars di Bartolomeo; the Minister for Health and Social Security, Martine Deprez; the former mayor of Esch-sur-Alzette turned Minister for Sports and Labour, Georges Mischo. The current mayor of Esch-sur-Alzette Christian Weis and the municipal council of Esch-sur-Alzette also joined.

The hereditary couple proceeded to walk through the longest shopping street in the country before laying flowers by the 'Monuments aux morts' ('Monument to the Dead' in English) at the National Resistance Museum.

As the ceremonial procession passed through the Rue de l'Alzette, Prince Guillaume and Princess Stéphanie took some time to greet local residents until both took their seats in the grandstands.
