The invasive species of mosquito, known for transmitting infectious diseases, have been found in the areas of Mamer and Roeser.

The Asian tiger mosquito can spread infectious diseases such as dengue fever, which is mostly found in Asia. In 2023 there was ten recorded cases of dengue fever in Luxembourg, compared to two cases in 2022.

The disease is said to have been imported by people travelling to Luxembourg from Vietnam, India, Mexico and the Ivory Coast. On average, these patients were around 35 years old.

To date there have been no recorded cases of Zika virus or Chikungunya fever in this country.
In France, by comparison, around 1,700 people have imported dengue fever in 2024 alone.

In order to raise awareness about the tiger mosquito and other types of mosquitoes, the Ministry of Health is set to relaunch its MosquitoAlert campaign in July ahead of the summer holidays.

The above information was supplied by health minister Martine Deprez in her response to a parliamentary question submitted by Green MP François Bausch.
