Luxembourg City's innovative 'Apéri'tours' initiative, announced on Tuesday at Limpertsberg's Tramsschapp, promises to engage residents in urban development through neighbourhood walking tours with City officials, addressing local issues while celebrating community strengths.
2024 marks the the year of the City's 24 districts for the Luxembourg City council. As part of their promise to involve residents in the City's urban development plans, the City will be hosting 'Apéri’tours' – a series of walking tours with City officials and political leaders.
The initiative was presented on Tuesday at the Tramsschapp in Limpertsberg attended by 300 City residents and RTL correspondent Lynn Cruchten.
Speaking to RTL, Mayor Lydie Polfer stressed the importance of visiting different neighbourhoods and listening to people's grievances firsthand. This should be followed with another meeting to assess the complaints that have been addressed, and any remaining issues. While acknowledging the challenges of striving for a perfect world, the mayor affirmed the City's commitment to do everything possible, as well and as quickly as they can.
The aim of the 'Apéri'tours' is to walk through different neighbourhoods with residents, raising awareness about various issues and providing a space for residents to express criticism. The City wants to highlight the positive aspects of each neighbourhood while addressing and resolving problems wherever possible.
Regarding the general development plan (PAG), Mayor Polfer ruled out developing a new plan but remained open to potential adjustments. As Luxembourg City continues to grow, more infrastructure is needed to accommodate this growth too.
The Apéri'tours initiative will be kicking off this Wednesday and will continue until October.
