Special police operation in Luxembourg City1,071 people checked, 48 arrested for presumed drug offences

Over the period from January to late April 2024, the police conducted a comprehensive series of checks across several neighbourhoods in Luxembourg City. A total of 2,363 checks were carried out, as disclosed by Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden.

Among the findings, 28 cases revealed irregularities in provided identification documents, while in eight instances individuals were found to be unlawfully present in Luxembourg. Additionally, 212 traffic violations were recorded during the operation.

Furthermore, officers issued four penalty notices for begging, one of which potentially involves former Green Party leader Christian Kmiotek, who voluntarily reported himself for begging.

Minister Gloden highlighted that four major operations were conducted in the Gare neighbourhood as part of the initiative. Responding to a parliamentary question by MP Meris Šehović of the Green Party, Gloden described the special operation as “a resounding success.”
