Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May, honours US military personnel that have died in service.
On Saturday, the event was marked at the Luxembourg American Memorial Cemetery in Hamm, where politicians, army officials, diplomats and members of the public convened.
There are 5076 graves at this cemetery. Here lie soldiers and personnel who were deployed and fought in foreign soil, including the famous General George S. Patton. The cemetery was founded in December 1944.
The US Ambassador to Luxembourg, Thomas Barrett, hosted a ceremony to mark Memorial Day. Wreaths were placed during the event.
